Huckstead, Elsie (11 June 1871 â€" 30 January 1950)

Mrs. Arlo Huckstead, 78, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Ridge, Town of Grant, died at her apartment on South Hewett Street, Monday, January 30, 1950, at 3:40 p.m. The body will lie in state at the Georgas Funeral Home until time of services when it will be taken to the Congregational Church. Final services will be held Thursday at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Sam Robbins of Mazomanie, Wis., former Congregational pastor here, will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Elsie Vine was born June 11, 1871, at Pleasant Ridge, Town of Grant. She was the daughter of Fred and Mary Buss Vine. She attended rural schools and received a teaching certificate from Neillsville High School. She taught for several years in Kurth, McCarl and Roder Schools.

On June 15, 1892, she was married to Arlo A. Huckstead and they lived on the Huckstead homestead until after Mr. Huckstead’s death. She then lived with her daughters, until she moved to the city last fall.

She was a member of the Haugen-Richmond unit of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 73. Mr. and Mrs. Huckstead celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in June, 1942.

Five children were born to this union: one son, Thomas, who died in England during World War I; Mrs. Oral (Ina) Graham, Minneapolis; Mrs. Lewis (Mary) Scholtz, Neillsville; Mrs. Lawrence (Doris) Vosseteig, Galesville; Mrs. George (Elsie) Wolff of Chetek. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Etta Carter of Crandon and two brothers, Fred Vine and Frank Vine of Neillsville, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

One sister and two brothers preceded her in death.

Pallbearers at the funeral of Mrs. Elsie Huckstead on Thursday afternoon were Ernest vine, William Vine, Herbert Swann, Irving Vine, Irving Gower and Theomore Vine. Ladies in charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. William Vine, Mrs. Ernest Vine, Mrs. Roy Suckow and Mrs. George Kressalt.

H. R. Briggs sang "In The Garden" and "I'm a Child of the King" accompanied by Mrs. Jess Scott at the piano.

Persons from out of town included Mrs. Oral Graham, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. George Wolff and daughter, Jane, of Chetek; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vosseteig and sons of Galesville; Mrs. Etta Carter, George Swann of Crandon; Mr. I. R. Poppe of Racine, and Mr. and Mrs. George Kressalt of Spencer.
