Krueger, Frank & Leslie (Denied Pardon - 1928)
Governor Walter J.
Kohler on Saturday denied the pardon applications made by Frank and Leslie
Krueger, draft evaders, who, during the World War shot and killed a member of a
posse that attempted to take them from their Clark County home near Withee.
The brothers were convicted of murder in in the first degree and sentenced
April 5, 1919, from the circuit court of Clark County.
Governor Kohler,
discussing their case, said he considered that although they were convicted
during the wartime hysteria, they were guilty of murder, and that he considered
the case to have much the same elements as if their act had been committed
during peace time.
