Farrand, Wallace C. (1887? - 6 Aug. 1934)
Death came suddenly Tuesday morning to Wallace C. Farrand, 47, co-publisher of the Neillsville Press and prominent Neillsville baseball promoter.
Although complaining of a sore throat, Mr. Farrand’s condition was not considered serious by a physician whom he visited Monday. He retired at 10 p.m. Monday night. At about 2 a.m. Mrs. Farrand awoke to find him choking and gasping for breath.
She immediately summoned aid and a pulmotor with an oxygen tank attached was secured and placed in use. The pulmotor was used continuously for three hours, but all efforts failed to revive the stricken man, who died at 5:30 a.m.
An attending physician stated that a severe congestion existed in the lungs but no definite reason for the condition was given.
Mr. Farrand came to Neillsville from Madison two years ago. He was mechanical superintendent of the newspaper plant in which he was interested, and was an enthusiastic baseball fan, managing Neillsville’s baseball team for two seasons. He is survived by his wife and two children.
