Mandel, Ernest (2 February 1872 - 16 August 1950)
Funeral services for Ernest Mandel, 78, who died on Wednesday at his home in Colby, were held on Saturday, August 19, 1950, from the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis. He died of a heart attack.
Mr. Mandel was born February 2, 1872, in Mishicot. He came to the Town of Green Grove at the age of 22. On June 24, 1899, he was married to Celia Kademan, who survives him. He farmed until 1907, when he purchased a cheese factory, which he operated for 30 years. While in the cheese business Mr. Mandel won three first prizes on Colby Cheese at the state cheesemakers’ convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also invented the Mandel agitator and sold the patent to a concern in Fond du Lac.
Surviving besides the widow are three children, Albert, and Mrs. Alfred Dins of Colby, Wis. and Harry of Unity, and six grandchildren as well as the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Emma Lauber, Mrs. Sophie Bernhardt, Julius Mandel and Erwin Mandel of Two Rivers, Mrs. Ira Schumann of Fort Atkinson, Albert Mandel of Fremont, Nebr., and Fred Mandel, Gregory, S.D.
