Somers, Alice Marie
(Larson) (14 JAN 1926 - 10 SEP 2013)
Alice Marie Somers, age 86, of
Waupaca, was peacefully called to eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at
Bethany Home in Waupaca.
Alice was born in Franklinville, N.Y., on
November 14, 1926, the youngest daughter of the late Lars and Mary (Miller)
Larson. The family moved to a Medford farm where Alice and her siblings were
raised. She married Everett "Ev" Somers on October 8, 1971. He preceded her in
death on July 21, 2009.
Alice and Ev owned Ev's Red Owl and later Ev's
Supermarket in Waupaca, where she worked hand in hand with Ev in the business.
She was an active member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Alice loved
the Lord and always focused on the positive side of those she met and the
challenges she faced. She enjoyed entertaining friends and spending time with
family. She and Ev retired to their John's Lake home in Wautoma and wintered in
Mercedes, TX. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, win or lose.
Alice
is survived by her children, Jim (Cindy) Johnson, Bella Vista, AR, Carol (Al)
Schmidt, Berlin, Mary Stevens, Sitka, AK, Dave (Lori) Johnson, Wautoma, Larry
(Beth) Somers, Iola, Debbie (Steve) Peterson, Owen and Tammy (special friend
Rick) Somers, Vernon, NJ; a sister, Susan Gauger, Westchester, PA;
grandchildren, Michelle (Angelo) Carini, Adam (Shannon) Johnson, Amanda Johnson,
Aaron Johnson, Krystle Somers, Trisha (Luke) Severt, Brittany Peterson, Logan
Peterson, Scott Magill and Brandon (Crystel) Magill; and six
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, four
sisters and a grandson, Tyler Peterson.
A memorial service will be held
at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept.
20, with Reverend Loren Fritz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church
on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment of cremains will
be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minn. A memorial fund has been
established in the name of Alice Marie Somers.
Voie Funeral Home of Iola
assisted the family with arrangements.
