Schmidt, Carl Albert (9 May 1893 - 20 October
1970)
Carl Albert Schmidt, 77, former Greenwood resident, died October 20
in St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior, where he was a patient for two months
following a stroke.
Mr. Schmidt was born May 9, 1893, at Greenbush. He
was married November 3, 1923 to Vivian Severson in Granton. She died January 29,
1962. Mr. Schmidt was a cheesemaker in the Granton and Greenwood area until
1941, when they moved to the Superior area. Following his retirement in 1958,
they moved to Middleton. The last two years he has made his home in Superior
with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sannwald. He served in World
War I and was a member of the Middleton Legion Post.
He is survived by
four daughters, Mrs. Garth (Lorraine) Luchterhand of Loyal, Mrs. Ted (Doris)
Sannwald of Superior, Mrs. Howard (Phyllis) Linebaugh of Madison and Mrs.
Richard (Shirley) Bertrang of Mazomanie; three sons, Herbert of Bennet, Edward
and James of Madison; nine grandchildren; a brother, Fred Smith of Owen; and a
sister, Mrs. Linda Schaefer of Oshkosh.
Funeral services were held Friday
from, the Hill Funeral home in Greenwood. The Rev. William Richards, pastor of
the Calvary Baptist Church in Sauk City, officiated. Military graveside rites
were in charge of the Greenwood American Legion Post, 238. Burial was made in
the Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lester Schuette, Ernst Molle,
Paul Brandt, Hugh Severson, George Behringer and Gerald Behringer. Tennes
Navrestad sang, “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”, accompanied on the
organ by Mrs. Don Warner.
