Kasken, Gertrude #4 (4 SEP 1914 - 27 JAN 1947)

Mrs. Gertrude Kasken, wife of Myrin Kaskin of a few miles northwest of the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), was found dead in bed at her home on Tuesday morning, Jan. 28th, 1947. Cause of death unknown at this writing. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Nieminen of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of this village.

Mrs. Kaskin is a teacher at the Pineland School northeast of Thorp. During her school Christmas vacation she made a trip to Florida and visited her folks. Her husband Myrin and Alois Prock of Owen left recently for Florida to visit with her folks and funeral arrangements have not been made as yet.

Gertrude (Niemenen) Kasken was born Sept. 4, 1914, on the farm 2 miles south of Clark in the Town of Hixon. She passed away in her sleep the night of Jan. 27, 1947.

She attended grad school at Willow Dale and graduated from the Withee High School with the class of 1931. She received her teacher’s training at Eau Claire and Superior State Colleges.

For the past 13 years she taught in the Clark County primary rooms at Clark, Riplinger, Sterling and the last eight years at Pineland School.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, Myron Kasken, to whom she was married June 20, 1942. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nieminen, Lake Worth, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Tyrine Braga of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Arian (Vieno) Keskimaki of Withee, Wis.. Her niece, Carol and nephews Klay and Dale will be among the many children whose memory will be enriched by having known Gertrude’s kindness and sweet, gentle manner. Uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Santala, Withee, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laiho in Massachusetts, Mr. and Mrs. James Kateren of California; numerous cousins in this county and Finland.

She will be missed by many friends and neighbors who knew her during her lifetime in this community.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mathew from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin) at Owen at two p.m. on Monday.

Pallbearers were: Wallace Dobrzynski, Wallace Wood, Bernhardt Hill, Eugene Santala, Lawrence Munson, Laurie Keskimaki.

Flower girls were: Mrs. Wallace Dobrzynski, Mrs. Joseph Zielinski, Mrs. Al Prock, Lorraine Milewski, Helen Rataiczyk, Janet Bartosiewicz, Sylvia Petrulis, Adeline Bartosiewicz and Valencia Marek.

Singers were: Marking sisters of Owen.
