Jacobi, Henry (8 Dec. 1856 - 21 Jan. 1935)

Henry Jacobi, who passed away Monday, was born Dec. 8th, 1856 in the Town of Wilson, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin. Not long after his birth his parents moved to Centerville, Wisconsin, where he spent his boyhood days. In the year 1880 he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Schmitz of Newton, Wis., and immediately moved to the Town of Holton, Marathon County. Being pioneers in this county they found it necessary to clear off the woods in order to have a few acres of tillable field. Through continual hard labor, Mr. Jacobi converted the wild woods into a fine, well improved farm. The many hardships experienced during those many years on the farm only true pioneers can understand. There were no roads, but only trails leading through the woods from their homes to the villages and Mr. Jacobi, as well as other early settlers, found it necessary to carry their flour and other food supplies all the way from Abbotsford, and in the first years, even from Colby, to their homes. Yet Mr. Jacobi, as other pioneers, continued, struggled and was successful.

From 1880 till 1912 the Jacobis lived on their farm. Six children were born to them: four sons and two daughters. Two of the children preceded him in death; the son Oscar in infancy, and the daughter, Edna, at the age of ten. The years 1912 - 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi lived in Colby, and since 1919 Abbotsford has been their home.

For many years Mr. Jacobi has kept an interesting record of rainfall in this vicinity.

Mr. Jacobi was well and strong until about eight weeks ago when he began suffering from jaundice. He gradually became weaker and his suffering grew more severe. He passed away Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the age of 78 years, one month and 14 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, three sons, one daughter, two brothers, two sisters, and 23 grandchildren. The sons, Henry, Edwin and Herbert live in the Town of Holton, and Mrs. Selma Bernetitte in Abbotsford, Wis. His brother Fred in Cleveland, Wis., Herman in Rathdrum, Idaho, his sisters, Mrs. Frank Lehmann in Sheboygan, and Mrs. Robert Flemming in Humbolt, Iowa.

Mr. Jacobi was an active and faithful member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral service was held Thursday at the home at 1 p.m. and in Christ Ev. Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. with burial in the cemetery in the Town of Holton, Rev. J. Brandt officiating.
