The School District of Abbotsford is proud to announce Alan Brunkhorst as the 2013 inductee into the Abbotsford Wall of Fame.

Alan “Buck” Brunkhorst graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1956 after a stellar high school athletic career. He was a three-year starter at quarterback on the football team, leading his team to a conference championship his senior year. He was also a three-year starter on the varsity basketball team, averaging 19.7 point per game, including 568 points as a senior. He scored 43 points n one game as a junior, which at the time, was a 3C Conference record.

After graduating from high school, Buck attended Eau Claire State University where he played basketball, lettering three years.

After graduation in 1960, Buck took his first teaching and head football coaching position at Auburndale High School, followed by stints as teacher and head football coach at Kettle Moraine and New Berlin West High Schools.

In 1968, while at New Berlin West, Buck served as a part-time NBA referee, eventually leaving New Berlin in 1972, to pursue a career as a full-time NBA referee.

In 1974, Buck returned to education, serving as a guidance counselor at Menomonee Falls High School until 1976, when he became a successful home builder/contractor in the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

In 1978, Buck and his wife Nancy moved to the Phoenix AZ area and started Nance Construction. Nance Construction has served as a premier home construction company since its inception in the Phoenix area. Clients of Nance Construction have included Robert Sarver, owner of the NBA Phoenix Suns, professional golfer Tom Lehman, retired NBA player Tom VanArsdale and Anne Mariucci, former president of Del Webb Corporation. Nance Construction homes have been featured in Beautiful Homes, House Beautiful, and Phoenix Home and Garden Magazines.

Buck married Nancy Roth, a 1957 graduate of Abbotsford High School in 1960. They have three children, a son Brock, and two daughters, Brett Carlino and Brynn O’Connell.

Brock played basketball at the University of Arizona from 1981 through 1985 for coach Lute Olson.

Buck joins his brother Brian, as a member of the Abbotsford Wall of Fame. Brian was honored in 2011 as an inductee along with coach Ken Anderson.

Friends and relatives are invited to join “Buck” at the induction ceremonies during halftime of the Abbotsford Homecoming game, September 20, versus Chippewa Falls McDonnell. Following the ceremonies, a reception will be held in the Community Room, all are invited.
