Urban, Bernice (28 JUN 1947)
A beautiful wedding took place at Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, June 28th, 1947, at the Holy Cross Church at 10:00 o’clock Mass, when Miss Bernice Urban, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Urban of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) became the bride of Mr. Stanley Stegwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stegwell of Chicago.
The church was decorated with palms and white peonies and a white rug in the aisle. Walter Dauksas played the organ and Ted Kusiligko and his sister Agnes sang throughout the mass.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Wm. Simkus. She was beautifully attired in a white slipper satin gown with a sweetheart neckline trimmed in baby pearls. Her sleeves were long and her full skirt ended in a long train. Her long veil was held by a baby pearl crown. Her only jewelry was a string of pearls. She carried a bouquet of white gardenias and left a bouquet of pennies at the Blessed Virgin’s Altar.
Miss Josephine Purlis acted as maid of honor. She wore blue marquisette with a sweetheart neckline and a net skirt of three ruffles with the marquisette draped over and held by yellow French bows. Other bridesmaids were: Mrs. Grace Styx and Miss Helen Gents, Florence Simkus, Geraldine Remkus, cousins of the bride. They all wore yellow gowns with blue French bows identical to the maid of honor and carried cascade bouquets of ten roses. They had blue and yellow headbands to match their gowns and each wore a rhinestone necklace, gifts of the bride.
Antonette Simkus, cousin of the bride and William Urban, Jr., brother of the bride, acted as junior couple. Antonette wore a yellow gown identical to the others, and also carried a bouquet of tea roses.
The groom was attended by Frank Marczec as best man, George Bairnus, Joseph Strick Jr., and Edward Mamayek as ushers. They all wore tuxedos and white carnation boutonnieres.
Immediately after the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served to about 40 guests at the home of the groom’s parents. At 6:00 p.m. a reception was held at the Good Fellow’s Hall and dinner was served to 250 guests.
The newlyweds took a two week honeymoon at Birchwood Lodged, Tower, Inn., and at Thorp and Wis. Dells. They will make their home in Chicago, where the groom is employed at Western Electric Co.
Out of town guests: Darven Hall, South bend, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nomaika, Montreal, Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Klugiewicz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
