Grace E. Dugre, 96, Greenwood, died at the Clark County Care Center, Owen, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Paul Dekker will officiate and inurnment will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery.
Grace Elizabeth Verhulst was born on Sept. 20, 1912, in the town of Longwood, to Peter and Elizabeth (nee Voskuil) Verhulst. When she was a young girl, her family moved to a farm near Greenwood, where she raised, received her elementary education at the Christopherson school, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1929. She attended nursing school in Milwaukee, and following her graduation, was employed as a nurse at International Harvester, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married Bill Dugre on April 12, 1944, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They resided in Milwaukee for many years. She retired from International Harvester after more than 30 years of employment. After retiring as a nurse, they bought some land near New Berlin, where they built a house, started up an orchard and sold fruit. Her husband, Bill, died on Oct. 31, 1983. She moved to Greenwood in 1984, where she bought a home. She resided in Greenwood until entering the nursing home on Aug/ 13, 2002. She had many interests, but especially loved playing cards, particularly canasta and sheepshead.
Survivors include three nieces, Corrine Verhulst, West Lake Village, Calif., DonaMae (Paul) Dekker, Loyal, and Phyllis (Jerry) Raush, Sheboygan; and four nephews, Lyle (Alice) Verhulst, Greenwood, Kenneth (Beatrice) Verhulst, Marshfield, Harold (Jean) Verhulst, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Richard (Linda) Verhulst, Anderson, Ind.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Bill; two sisters, Ruth Verhulst and Harriet Gotter, and two brothers, Clarence Verhulst and Harvey Verhulst.
