Schmidt, Johanna (6 JAN 1857 - 16 MAR 1944)
Mrs. Johanna Schmidt, 87, who has been making her home since 1929 with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Gloff, in the town of Eau Pleine, near Stratford, died Thursday night, Mar 16, at 10 o’clock at the Gloff home, following a several months’ illness.
Funeral services were held from the Zion Lutheran church in Stratford on Monday, Mar. 20. The body lay in state in the church from 11 a.m. on the day of the funeral until the time of the services, which were held at 2 p.m. Interment was made at the Trinity Lutheran cemetery, located north of Loyal. The Rev. T. E. Diemer officiated.
Mrs. Schmidt, nee Krause, was born in Germany, on Jan. 6, 1857, and came to America in 1872. She was married at Granton in July, 1877, to Gottfried Schmidt, who preceded her in death in December, 1902. Since that time she had been living with her children in the towns of Beaver, Loyal and Grant in Clark county and the town of Eau Pleine in Marathon county.
Surviving are two sons, William of Wakefield, Mich., and Ernest of Ontonagon, Mich; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Dobbe of Loyal, Mrs. Otto Yankee of Granton and Mrs. Arthur Gloff of Stratford; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Rossow of Eatonville, Wash., and Mrs. Mathilda Bass of Granton; one brother, Carl Krause, of Granton; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren
Nine children also preceded her in death.
The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved relatives.
