Metcalf, Parker (30 AUG 1869 - 9 APR 1944)
Parker Metcalf passed away Sunday evening, Apr. 9, at the home of his son, Leon Metcalf, in the town of York, after two years of heart ailment. He was born on Aug. 30, 1869, in Churnbusco, Ind., the son of Allen and Alvera Robinson Metcalf.
At the age of five years he came with his parents to Hewettville, traveling the entire distance by team and wagon. Here he grew to manhood and received his education as a young man. He worked in lumber camps in Clark county and for a few years in a tannery and lumber camp at Phillips.
He was truly a pioneer of this community. On Apr. 10, 1898, he was married to Julia Northup of Neillsville. They lived at Phillips for a few years and then came to the farm in the town of York where he spent the remainder of his life.
Six children were born to them: Elsie (Mrs. Lewis Kaudy), Leon and Kenneth of the town of York; Irene (Mrs. Ed Struensee) of Neillsville; Sadie (Mrs. Alvin Miller), who lives on the home farm, and Mrs. Fern Hagen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his six children, 11 grandchildren, a half-brother, Allie Metcalf of Chippewa Falls and a brother-in-law, Percy Northup, of the town of York. A brother, Jesse Metcalf, died last summer at Altoona. Mrs. Metcalf passed away in 1927.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Apr. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Congregational church at Neillsville, preceded by brief services at the Jasper funeral home. The Rev. George W. Longenecker was the officiating pastor, and burial took place in the Neillsville cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Diercks, Otto Grosnick, John Krejci, Edward Gault, Carl Radtke and Bruce Armitage.
The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
