The casketed remains of Staff Sergeant Edward Papierniak and Pfc. Louis Kolaczkowski, World War II deceased members of the U.S. Army from the city of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) will arrive here Tuesday morning, Nov. 16th at 4 a.m. from overseas for final burial. The remains will be accompanied by uniformed U.S. Army escorts from Chicago Distribution Center of the American Graves Registration Division.
S-Sgt. Edward Papierniak was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Papierniak of Thorp and was an engineer of the 15th Air Corps, a member of the crew of a B-24 bomber which failed to return from their fourteenth bombing mission to Steyr, Austria on Feb. 23, 1944.
Pfc. Louis Kolaczkowski was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kolaczkowski of Thorp and was killed in action in the U.S. Army 84th Division in Germany on Nov. 20th, 1944.
Both boys will be buried with full military honors by Cecil Tormey Post No. 118 of the American Legion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18th at St. Hedwig’s Church, the Rev. Piekarski, Kaim and Kamla officiating. Their bodies will lie in state at the Thorp Funeral Home.
Frank Broeren, Mayor, requests that flags bon on display upon the arrival of the bodies and remain on display until after the services Thursday. The flags at the city hall, post office and American Legion Hall will be on display at half mast as a tribute to the departed.
