Allmann, Marie L. (13 Apr. 1921 - 4 Jan. 2009)

Marie L. Allmann, 87, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at the Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford, Wis.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, and at church Friday one hour before services.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A St. Mary's PCCW parish rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Abbotsford

Marie was born April 13, 1921, in Milan to Frank and Mae Van Slett. She received her education in Unity and graduated from Unity High School. She received her teaching degree at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and went on to teach at the Rural Unity School. Marie was married to Edward A. Allmann in Colby, on March 16, 1944. After traveling for Edward's military service, they made their home in Colby, Wis.

Marie was an avid gardener and an excellent seamstress. Marie could warm your heart with her home cooked meals and delicious bakery. She was a very dedicated mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish, Christian Mothers Society and VFW Auxiliary Post 2227.

Marie had a strong work ethic, she held many jobs throughout her life including: teacher, store clerk, portrait painter and retired as a teacher's aid from the Colby School District. After retirement she enjoyed creating and selling crafts.

Marie touched the lives of many people. She will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her eight children Carol (Dick) Masanz of Stratford, Gregg (Diane) Allmann of Mukwonago, Robert (Sheryl) Allmann of Columbia, S.C., Julie (Ron) Cooper of Colby, Mary (Dan) Babich of Abbotsford, Richard (Debby) Allmann of Colby, Melanie (Mark) Gorke of Abbotsford, and Jenny (Pete Weber) Langreck of Colby; 21 grandchildren, Russell, Amy, Steve, Jessica, Jason, Bobby, Anne, Mike, Ron, Karen, John, Tom, Scott, Nicole, Kristen, Melissa, David, Barbara, Suzie, Matt and Molly. She was also a proud great-grandma of 14.

She is further survived by a sister Bunny Meyer of Colby; and three brothers, Art, Russell and Orville Van Slett.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; a daughter, Kathleen; her sister, Aurelia Blanchard; and by her brothers, Elmo, Francis, Charles and Joseph Van Slett.
