Ostenson, Melvin Edward (1891? - 18 July 1959)
Melvin Edward Ostenson, age 68, was found dead late Saturday in the barn on his farm one and one-half miles east of Curtiss. Clark county authorities said he had hanged himself. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Wis., Rev. Orval Egbert of Greenwood officiating, and internment was made in Pine Hill cemetery at Curtiss.
A daughter, Miss Ethel Ostenson, who lived with her father, and two of the man’s nieces, Miss Gloria Goodspeed, Jackson, Ohio, visitors at the Ostenson home, found the body after returning from a call to the home of a relative in the area.
Miss Ostenson told authorities that her father had been despondent since the death of his wife last May 5. Officers who investigated were Sheriff Frank Dobes and Coroner Robert Lulloff.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Adelaide Goodspeed of Jackson, Ohio; Ethel Ostenson of Bloomer; five grand children; one brother, Roy Ostenson of Curtiss; four sisters, Edna Ostenson, Christine Ostenson and Mrs. Carla Lein, all of Curtiss, Mrs. Ella Moen of Cottage Grove, Ore.
