Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Donald Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larson of Bloomer, who was drowned at his Air Force Base in Texas last week, were held at the First Congregational Church in Bloomer, Monday afternoon, Sept. 19th, with Rev. B. J. Taledge officiating.
Sgt. Larson was born on Dec. 7, 1914 at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). He went to school in Thorp, and in 1932 moved with his family to Bloomer. He was married in Sand Creek in 1937 to Anna Flatland, who survives him.
The deceased served overseas in World War II, and was wounded in the Normandy invasion. He reenlisted in the Air Corps, and was stationed in Texas at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his parents, one son, Donald of Wheeler, and two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Ferne) Frazier of Bloomer, and Lois Mae Larson at home.
After the church services the American Legion took charge, and conferred full military honors at the graveside in the Bloomer City Cemetery.
The flag which covered the casket was presented to Donald’s mother, Mrs. Walter Larson, by Staff Sgt. Kelley, who accompanied the casketed remains from the Air Force Base in Texas.
The honorary pallbearers were Legion members Charles Stritesky, Clarence Hartz and Dan Goettl
