Witte, Edwin Walter (6 Feb. 1907 - 19 Feb. 1960)

Edwin Walter Witte died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Friday at 1:30 P.M. at the age of 53 years, a heart failure being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. R. Krueger of Spencer officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Emil Wolk, Art Grauman, Arnold Strathman, Edward Strathman, Harold Strathman and Lofton Runzheimer.

Mr. Witte was born in Colby, Wisconsin on February 6, 1907. He received his education in Zion Lutheran school, Colby Graded School and Colby High School. After completing high school, he worked for the Harmony Co-operative Produce Company. In 1933, he built a filling station on Highway 13, the Standard Station at the present time. In 1936, he became an authorized dealer for Gamble Skogmo and has been in the hardware business since that time. He married Hazel Schjoneman on January 1, 1935, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, Wis.

Mr. Witte served on the Colby Graded School board for several years, was a member of Zion Lutheran church since 1921 and was a member of the Colby Chamber of Commerce. He was well-known for his fine Christian character, courteous and friendly at all times which won him the esteem and friendship of all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Gueldner of Whitewater and Miss Karla Witte of Colby; a son, Dennis Witte of Madison; two sisters, Mrs. D. C. (Elsie) Luhrsen of Marshfield and Mrs. Ray (Hilda) Kriplean of Appleton, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Witte of Colby, Wis. A brother, Walter, died in infancy.
