Ayer, Jonas (15 Jan. 1876 - 1954)
Jonas Ayer, 78, died at his home here at about 10:30 P.M. last Wednesday of a heart attack.
He was born January 15, 1876 at Onalaska. As a boy he came with his parents to a farm in Clark County. On October 1, 1913 he was married to Mrs. Emma Raabe. Since their marriage they lived in Spencer. Mr. Ayer was a charter member of the Spencer State Bank and served as Village President at one time.
Surviving are his wife, three stepsons, George Raabe, Wittier, Calif.; Henry Raabe, Stevens Point; Warren Raabe, Madison; and a stepdaughter Mrs. Allen (Amanda) Johnson of Rapid City, S. D.: Three sisters, Mrs. William Wisnosky, Kiplinger and Mrs. Jane Kammer and Mrs. William Loney both of Colby; three brothers, Owen Ayer, Madison, Walter Ayer, Rip, and William Ayer, Loyal; 12 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
A stepdaughter, a stepson, a sister and tree brothers preceded him in death.
The body reposed at the Swartout Funeral Home, where services were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday. The Rev. Harvey Schall, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated and burial was made in the West Spencer cemetery.
Mrs. Norman Kasper sang during the service.
Pallbearers were Arthur Huber, G.C. Schultz, Fred Gumz, Alfred Sampson, H.A. Kuethe and Charles Covi.
Honorary pallbearers were R.J. Tack, E.J. Thuss, James Griffith, Edward Klein, H. F. Seefeld, and A. L. Boock.
Flowers were carried by Mrs. Arthur Huber, Mrs. Ervin Oestreich, Mrs. Herbert Spiegelberg, Mrs. Ted Neidlein, Mrs. Fred Gumz, and Mrs. Mary Schultz.
Out of town people here to attend the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Owen Ayer and son, Madison; Mrs. Jane Cammers, Colby; Mrs. William Wis and son, Riplinger; Mr. William Ayer, Mr. Cullen Ayer of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Werner Raabe, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raabe, and Dr. Thomas Raabe, Stevens Point; and Mrs. A.B. Johnston and Mr. Allen Miller, Rapid City, S.D.
