Loretta E. Herr, 89, Greenwood, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Loretta Ellen Herr was born on Feb. 15, 1919, in Greenwood, to Albert and Ellen (nee Baily) Herr. She was raised on the family farm two miles north of Greenwood, and was a graduate of Greenwood High School. After graduation, she moved to Illinois where she worked for a family, as a maid, until retiring in the early 1980’s. She moved back home to Greenwood, where she resided in the Black River Apartments until entering the Clark County Health Care Center on Jan. 12, 2007. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a quiet and peaceful soul, who loved watching nature, especially birds and squirrels, from her windows. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include one sister, Delores Keating, Muncie, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Grace Abel; and two brothers, Joseph Herr and Francis Herr.
