Mrs. Gladys Gillard, who left Neillsville January 14, returned home
Monday night from Appleton where she visited her aunt, Mrs. Lena Suthard, who is
hospitalized there with a terminal illness. Mrs. Gillard also spent some time in
Milwaukee with her daughter, Mrs. June LaPalm and with her granddaughter and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fields.
Fred Kieser attended the annual
standing committee meetings of the Northern Wisconsin District of the American
Lutheran Church Monday at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Wausau. He is a
member of the district committee on American Missions.
Mr. and Mrs.
Bergen Smith attended graduation exercises for their daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Darwin Smith, at Eau Claire State University, January 27. Mrs. Smith, who
graduated cum laude with a 3.9 grade point average, was awarded a Bachelor of
Arts Degree.
Etta Smith, a student at Milwaukee Technical College,
returned to school Sunday after spending a 10-day semester vacation with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bergen Smith.
Mrs. Bergen Smith plans to fly either
February 2 or 3 to St. Louis, Mo., where she will spend a couple of weeks with
her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Don Mueller and family.
The
Rev. and Mrs. William Dushek and family of Monroe spent the weekend at the Rev.
Gale Wolf home and visited with friends in the Neillsville area.
Mrs.
Anna Smitke returned home last week from a three-week stay in Memorial Hospital.
Mr and Mrs. Elmer Dodmead and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matousek went to Eau
Claire Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Greeler spent Sunday evening
with the Alvin Lavene family and Hattie Forman in the Town of York.
Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Scholtz visited Sunday afternoon at the home of his brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Scholtz and son, Gene, and had supper there.
They also visited his sister, Mrs. Mamie Gall, and brother, Frank Scholtz, both
resident s of Memorial Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schwellenbach and
daughter, Lisa, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crowson and son, Jonny, all of Eau Claire,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. William Schwellenbach.
Guests Sunday for
a potluck dinner and supper at the Roger Bender home in Loyal in observance of
Mr. Bender’s birthday included Mr. and Mrs. Harold Drescher, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Lavene, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lavene and sons, Ricky and Gary, Mrs. Hattie Forman,
Mrs. Agnes Bender, and Mr. and Mrs. Louie Pachal and Mrs. Esther Pachal and
family of Loyal.
Wilbur Anderson spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs.
Harry Anderson. Other guests at the Anderson home were a family friend, Joan
Hulster, and her son Johnny, of Westby. The Andersons and the Hulsters, visited
Saturday evening at the home of Mrs. George Merik in rural Merrillan.
Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Marg and children moved Saturday into their home on the Marg
family farm, which they purchased from Mrs. Ed Marg several months ago. The
Richard Witte family, formerly of Columbus, planned to move Wednesday into the
rural Grand Ave. home vacated by the Marg’s.
Local people who attended
the championship snowmobile races held at Eagle River over the weekend included
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kunze, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kessler, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Patey, Mr.
and Mrs. Dick Backaus, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Tibbett, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Urlaub, and
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Pischer. The group stayed at the Pelican Lake home of Mrs.
Backaus’ parents.
