Alice Dmytro, age 94, of Waupaca (formerly of Thorp) passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Waupaca. Al Jakubowski officiated and burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Music was provided by the Polish Choir, accompanied by soloist Stacy Stephens. Visitation was held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Alice Gulczinski was born on February 3, 1919, in Minot, ND, the daughter of Stanley and Julia (Mozinski) Gulczinski. As a young child, Alice’s family moved to Detroit, MI and later to Thorp, WI, where she received her education. She was united in marriage to John Badzinski on July 4, 1936, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Alice worked several jobs over the years, in addition to being a full-time farm wife and mother of five children. John passed away on January 8, 1980. She later married Leo Dmytro on August 15, 1981. They lived in the City of Thorp and enjoyed helping out others whenever possible. Leo passed away on April 27, 2009, and Alice continued to live in her home on School Street until moving to her daughter’s home in Waupaca in 2010.

In her spare time, Alice enjoyed baking, sewing, painting and drawing, and square dancing. She was also an active volunteer at church, nursing homes and hospitals, and area schools. Alice always had a big “hug” for everyone and her enthusiastic energy was contagious. She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its Parish Council of Catholic Women, was an active member of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary, and a former 4-H club leader.

Alice is survived by five children: Dorothy (Jim) Stephens of Waupaca, John (Teena) Badzinski of Coon Rapids, MN, Jean (Gene) Mercer of Mosinee, Karen (Rick) Schlabowske of Waupaca, and Gary (Pam) Badzinski of Apopka, FL; 16 grandchildren; 23 Great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1980; her husband, Leo, in 2009; three sisters: Frances, Verna, and Ann; and four brothers: Frank, Joe, Steve, and Florian.
