Solie, Janet Marie (12 August 1940 - 8
October 2013)
Janet Marie Solie, age 73, of Stanley, passed away on
Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center, Chippewa
Falls, after battling cancer for the past four years.
Janet was born
August 12, 1940, in Thorp, WI, the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Tobola)
Hedler. She grew up in the Thorp area and attended Catholic Grade School,
graduating from Thorp High School in 1958. Janet went on to study at Viterbo
College in La Crosse, later transferring to Stout State College, where she
received a degree in 1963 for Home Economics with a minor in English. She began
a teaching career as a University Extension Agent in Medford, Taylor County,
then in Rhinelander, Oneida County, and later in Sturgeon Bay, Door County.
On April 7, 1977, she was wed to Brian Solie in Green Bay, WI. Janet was a
member of St. Bernard- St. Hedwig Parish of Thorp, the Happy Red Hatters, and
the Stanley Area Historical Society, serving as secretary. Janet enjoyed
painting, reading, planting flowers, Wednesday morning coffee with friends,
spending time at the wood son Art Museum, the Big Top Chautauqua, traveling in
Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula, and keeping her husband on track.
Janet is survived by her husband, Brian, of Stanley; sisters: Mary Jane
(Larry) Ciolkosz, and Joyce (Vern) Whirry; sister-in-law, Donna Hedler;
brother-in-law, Phil Miller; aunt, Ruth Tobola; plus many cousins, nieces, and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerome
Hedler; sisters, Joan and Jacqueline; plus numerous aunts and uncles.
A
Memorial Service will be held at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp
on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Al Jakubowski officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the church. Inurnment will
take place in the East Side Cemetery, Stanley. Plombon Funeral Service is
assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Marshfield Clinic Oncology Dept. Eau Claire, or a charity or organization of
choice
