Whittemore, Alice J. (3 JAN 1861 - 28 JUL 1944)
Mrs. Alice Jane Whittemore, 83, died at 11:20 p.m. at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield on Friday, July 28. She was taken to the hospital on the Wednesday previous. She had been in poor health for the past four years and had become seriously ill a week before her death.
Mrs. Whittemore, nee Nutt, was born in Fairbury, Ill., on Jan. 3, 1861, and was married in Nebraska on Sept. 2, 1884. In 1917 she moved to Granton, and about six years ago she came to Loyal to make her home.
She is survived by six children, Mrs. Henry (Ella) Weaver, route two, Granton; Cecil Silas Whittemore of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Thomas (Elsie E.) Duncan of Loyal: Mrs. Ed (Mabel E.) Deal, route one, Marshfield; Gilbert Ernest Whittemore of Loyal, and Zidon E. Whittemore of Roseburg, Ore. Two brothers, John Nutt of Brownsville, Ore., and Zidon Nutt of Essex, Ill.; two half-brothers, Will and Albert Schroeder, both of Ewing, Nebr., 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whittemore were held at the Ohlrogge funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, followed by a service at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church. The Rev. M. E. Taylor was in charge.
Pallbearers were two sons, Cecil and Gilbert Whittemore; three sons-in-law, Henry Weaver, Thomas Duncan and Edward Deal, and a friend, Louis Weaver.
The hymns, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Beyond the Sunset" and "Face to Face," were sung by Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior, accompanied by Miss LaVonne Smith.
Interment was in the Lynn cemetery beside her husband, Edward Walter Whittemore, who preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1925.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Zidon Nutt and Mrs. Geraldine Amerina of Essex, Ill.; Will and Albert Schroeder of Ewing, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Whittemore of Peoria, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Deal and son Ralph, of Granton, and Zidon Whittemore of Roseburg, Ore. Others from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Blackborn and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Weaver of Marshfield.
The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved relatives.
