Stock, John P. (8 AUG 1927 - 26 OCT 2013)
John P. Stock, 86 of Withee, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 26,
2013 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield with his four children and loved
ones by his side. Visitation will be held at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home
in Owen on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Saint Katherine's
Episcopal Church in Owen. Reverend Tony Ring will officiate. Burial will be in
the Withee Riverside Cemetery, Saturday, November 2,2013 at 11:00 AM with full
military rites conducted by the Lublin American Legion Post 547.
John was
born on August 8, 1927 to Julius and Rose (Stasek) in Woodstock, Illinois. He
attended Woodstock Schools. After graduating from high school, John entered the
US Navy, was a Seaman Second Class during WWII and was honorably discharged in
1946. He returned to Owen where he met and married Nancy Lou Crowley on January
24, 1948 at the Neillsville Courthouse. John worked local jobs including
production at Master Package and at Griebenow Company where he was introduced to
plumbing . In 1950 he began his apprenticeship at Griebenow Company in Owen
completing his plumbing apprenticeship in 1955.
As a journeyman plumber
in the Owen Withee area John continued to work for Griebenow Company before
moving to Worth, IL to work as a plumber for two years then came back to Withee
and as a Master Plumber started the NL Stock Plumbing Heating and Electrical
Company in 1958. He sold the business in 1968. John then joined the Local Union
385 in Eau Claire and worked as a plumbing Superintendant for several mechanical
contractors in the greater Eau Claire area until his retirement in 1992.
When John was not working, he enjoyed family vacations, going to auctions,
gardening, and planting trees on his property at Frenchtown School (renamed
Ratherthan). John also enjoyed charter fishing trips to the Great Lakes, deer
hunting, and going to the ice fishing shack with his sons and grandchildren.
John loved his work with a passion and he instilled in his family his strong
work ethic.
John was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and
Pipefitters for 55 years, Lublin American Legion Post #547 and the Arbor
Foundation.
John is lovingly survived by his brother; Herb (Dolo) Stock
of Owen and sister Rose Pralguske of Fort Mohave, AZ, and his children; Kathy
(Jeff) Jones of Sherwood, OR, Jeff (Linda) Stock of Elk Mound, Tim (Diane) Stock
of Withee, and Andrea (Scott) Richards of Marshfield. Grandchildren; Nathan
(Nicole) Jones, Amy (Jason) Goodding and Ryan (Jeni Halter) Jones, Heidi (Randy
Franz) Stock, Craig (Linda) Stock, Josh Frenette, Amy (Ross) Kaz, Autumn (James)
Collar, Tim (Angela) Stock Jr., 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded
in death by his parents, wife; Nancy Lou Stock on September 3, 1998, and 2
brothers; Bert and Bob.
John's family would like to thank the staff of
Oakbrook Health and Rehab Center in Thorp and the House of the Dove in
Marshfield for the wonderful care he received.
