Fredrick, Daniel H. (14 JUN 1915 - 2 NOV 2013)

Daniel H. Fredrick, age 88, of rural Owen, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Mayo Health Systems in Osseo. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are: Albert Buss, Ken Engel, Tom Kassie, Rick Sowieja, Bill Rennie and Michael Buss. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Myron Buss, Dylan Fredrick, Dustin Fredrick and Sean Stolfi.

Dan was born on June 24, 1925 in Fall Creek, the son of Herbert and Margaret (Buchholz) Fredrick. At the age of six, his family moved by horse from Fall Creek to rural Owen to the family farm. He attended Bee Hive Country School. Dan enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1946 and served for two years. In 1952, he bought the family farm. On October 9, 1954, Dan was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson in Park Falls. She preceded him in death in March of 1999.

Dan was a lifelong farmer that started during the dust bowl until his last days. He sold the farm to his sons in 1990, but continued to live and work on the farm. Dan was also active in the United Church of Christ in Owen, serving as deacon and on the church board. He also served on the Green Grove Town Board. Dan also enjoyed hunting for 70 years and especially hunting elk out west for many years. He was especially proud and fond of his grandchildren and family.

Dan is survived by his three children: Linda Fredrick of Stoughton, David (Mary) Fredrick of Owen and Denis Fredrick of Owen; four grandchildren: Nikki Hall, Dylan (Carmella) Fredrick, Jessi (Sean) Stolfi and Dustin Fredrick; four great-grandchildren: Alanna, Dean, Lola and Shea. He is further survived by his brother, Duane Fredrick of Osseo, a brother-in-law, Wayne (Sandra) Johnson of Anchorage, AK; nieces and nephews: Jane (Danny) Thompson, Mary (Ralph) Leirmo, Mike Johnson, Mark Johnson and Jayne Johnson and family friend, Linda Skoien.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Eva Leseth.
