GRANTON -- Earl W. Chubb, 86, of Granton died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at the Palliative Care Unit of Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville.

Friends may call from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

NEILLSVILLE -- Earl W. Chubb, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in Palliative Care at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville. Friends may call at the funeral home today from noon until service time.

Earl was born April 28, 1922, at home in Clark County to Arthur and Julia Chubb. He had no siblings but numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

He received his education at the rural grade school and graduated from Granton High School in 1940. He married Carola Weichelt in August of 1945. They were later divorced. Earl helped with the Chubb family farm until 1948 when his father became ill and was unable to do any of the farm work. At that time, Earl purchased the farm from his parents.

Earl farmed the home farm, which has been in the family for three generations. He had one of the first milking parlors in Clark County installed on his farm. He had loose cattle housing and automatic feeders. Because of his modern methods of farming, his complete farm of 158 acres was terraced or contoured for more efficient farming. This was done working with a representative from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

While he was busy with the farm, he also helped Ben Beeckler harvest oats and corn. He had his own business of Earl's TV Tower Service for 30 years, which was mainly putting up TV towers for all the local people. Earl and Tom Dahlen worked together for eight years installing satellite dishes.

While this would have kept most people busy, he also served on the board of the town of Lynn as a supervisor for many years, was active on a bowling team, pool league, the Sportsman's Club, hunting, making maple syrup, horseshoes, woodworking, quilting and lots of traveling.

Earl married Rosalind Brothers Jessen in 1975 at the Clark County Courthouse. They then moved onto Rose's Hobby Farm. They lived there and were devoted to each other for 32 years. She preceded him in death July 17, 2007.

Earl loved the outdoors and liked to go camping at Hatfield and Warrens with his children. He especially liked to go fishing in Canada. He had a passion for his favorite flowers, roses, which bloomed all summer. Earl and Rose planted a vegetable garden every year and loved to share whatever they grew with their family and neighbors. When it got to the point where they could no longer do much gardening, all the relatives got together on weekends in early spring and planted the gardens for them to enjoy.

Since about 1991, Earl had heart failure. He very seldom complained about all the discomfort he was going through. He knew his family needed him as he was the glue, the heart and the center of the family. He courageously fought to live for them and is so dearly missed.

Earl is survived by eight children, Carolyn (Doc/Arnold) Wesenberg of Granton, Marjorie (Dale) Buckner of Pittsville, Nancy (Tom) Dahlen of Granton, Doris (Joe) Fischer of Hampton, Minn., Sally (Terry) Schar of Lakeville, Minn., Jerry (Marti) Chubb of Unity, Debra (Jim) Rakovec of Marshfield and Jane (Mike) Reigel of Marshfield; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many dear relatives and friends around the country. Lastly, Earl is survived by several furry and a lot of feathered companions who loved him a bunch for keeping their feeders full, especially his dog Ricky, who has sadness in his eyes, for he knows he lost a precious friend.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind; his parents; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield Clinic, especially Dr. Phillips, Chris and staff, and all the neighbors and friends who dropped in to say hello and who made Dad's last years so much easier for him. Thank you for your positive presence.
