Matonich/Rollins families host annual picnic in Marshfield, WI

MARSHFIELD, September 20, 2013 — This summer, descendants from the late Joseph and Catherine (Paun) Matonich, gathered for their annual family picnic. They had nine children of the last names Arnold, Enfield, Linzmeier, Matonich, Rollins, and Shimkus; Rollins being the largest producer. The picnic is held annually the first Sunday in August at Wildwood Park and Zoo in Marshfield, Wood County, Wisconsin. This year’s picnic was held August 4, 2013 on a perfect summer day.
Over 80 family members from Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, and several Wisconsin cities including Chili, De Pere, Granton, La Crosse, Marshfield, Onalaska, Stratford, Spencer, Wisconsin Rapids, among others were in attendance. Before the meal prayer, a brief “Celebration of Life” presentation was made by Kevin Ress, active family member in their genealogy research. “We lost two of our oldest family members [Helen Arnold and Mary Shimkus] this past year. We wanted to recognize them and celebrate with them any marriages and births that took place since the picnic the year prior. Despite the losses, we have a lot to celebrate.” describes Ress.

Activities during the picnic included an entire group and individual family photos, a family tree poster created in the late 1800’s, various family photos, a scavenger hunt w/questions about family members and the zoo, a bounce-house for the kids, old-car show, and of course a potluck meal able to feed an army.

Members attending from the late Paul and Helen Arnold family included Randy and June Arnold, Amy [Arnold] Sawitoski and her two daughters.

Family attending from the late and Enfield family included Hank and LaVonne Haffenbredl, Jeff and Ohlie Saylor, and Jeanine Saylor.

Family attending from the late Harold and Louise Linzmeier family included Dale and Diane Linzmeier, Keith Linzmeier, Donna Linzmeier-Johnson, Jennifer Johnson and her daughter.

Family attending from the late John and Eleanor Matonich family included Jack Matonich.

Family members from the late Robert and Ann Rollins family included Denny and Sherry Rogstad, Larry and Shelly Schultz, Bonnie Weber, Kevin and Nicole Nohl-Ress and his two daughters, Charlie and Shirley Ress, Joe and Keri McCormick and their three children, Dawn Fuehrer, Kristen Gorst and her two sons, Marci Griesbach and her two daughters, Sandy Hanuszczak, Chris and Ann Kolstad and their three children, Dave and Bev Lavey, Don and Betty Lou Mahoney, Greg and Lisa Mahoney, Erica Neumeister and her two children, Karen Pernsteiner, Verlyn & Frieda Rollins, Duane & Rita Rollins, Dale & Cathy Rollins, Matt & Tami Rollins, Dean and Becky Rollins and his sons Casey and Robert, Mike Rollins, Tony Skylar, Dawn Furhrer, Jim Froeba, Dale and Cathy Rollins, Denny and Sharon Rollins, Jim Rollins, Julie Rollins and her to children, Rick and Pam Rollins and their son.

Family members from the late Peter and Mary Shimkus family were missed this year.

Next year’s event is scheduled for August 3, 2014 at the Wildwood Park and Zoo in Marshfield, Wood County, Wisconsin.
