Orth, Karen M. (Langteau) (12 DEC 1948 - 13 OCT 2013)

Karen M. Orth, 64, Medford, died on Sunday, Oct. 13 at her home, surrounded by her family and under hospice care. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Medford VFW, with full military honors performed at 1 p.m. by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Karen Langteau was born on December 12, 1948 in Medford to Arthur and Shirley (Knoll) Langteau. She was a graduate of Abbotsford High School.

On August 30, 1974 in Neillsville, she married Rodney "Goose" G. Orth, who survives. She served in the United States Army from July 1967 to December 1969. She then worked at Phillips Plastics in Medford for 27 years, then at Kmart until ill health forced her retirement.

She enjoyed reading, bowling, horseshoes, camping, computer games and her dog, Alex.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Shirley Langteau of Abbotsford; a daughter Christy Matthews of Medford; eight siblings, Sheryl (Robert) Mengel of Lakewood, Dennis (Bev) Langteau of Luxemburg, Allen Langteau of San Diego, Calif., Vicki (Robert) Spindler of Rothschild, James (Joy) Langteau of Abbotsford, Cathy Osborne and Sandy (Robert) Warner, both of Weston, and Lori Schmidt of Stratford; a grandson, Dylan Matthews of Medford; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Langteau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
