Staves, Mr. and Mrs. William (Golden - 8 March
1971)
Mr. and Mrs. William Staves observed their Golden Wedding
anniversary on Sunday at the Humbird Legion Hall. The former Josephine E.
Repplinger and William L. Staves were married March 8, 1921, at the bride’s home
by Rev. Coram, a Methodist minister from Fairchild.
Mr. and Mrs. Staves,
72, who were both born on the same day, November 8, 1898, have lived and farmed
in the Humbird community during their entire lifetimes. They are the parents of
three children, Dorothy, Mrs. Ralph Vernor of San Diego, Ca., Dudley of Eau
Claire, and Beverly, Mrs. Norval Beyrer of Colfax. There are nine grandchildren,
three in each family.
The anniversary observance, hosted by their
children, was begun by Wally Staves who honored his grandparents by singing “The
Lord’s Prayer.” Dudley Staves was toastmaster for the occasion. Bert Hanby, 85,
who played the violin at the wedding dance 50 years ago, entertained the guests
with several numbers. The luncheon tables we graced by floral arrangements and a
beautiful anniversary cake decorated by the Staves’ daughter, Beverly.
The couple was greeted by telegrams, telephone calls, letters, and guests from
San Jose and San Diego, Ca., Daytona Beach, Fl., New Brunswick, N. J.,
Albuquerque, N. M., Nauvoo, Il., Minneapolis and St. Paul, Mn., as well as from
many local communities.
