Rifleman, Douglas (6 Sept. 1920 - 26 Jan. 1961)
Douglas Rifleman of Edgar died last week Thursday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, after being ill the past year. A solemn mass of requiem was held in St. John’s Catholic church in Edgar, Rev. Oscar Cramer officiating, and burial was made in the Edgar cemetery.
Mr. Rifleman was born in Edgar on September 6, 1920. He was a graduate of the Edgar High School. His marriage to the former Beatrice Kraus of Colby took place at Colby on July 11, 1953. For the past eight years, he was employed as a rural mail carrier, and, prior to that time, he worked as a clerk in the Edgar post office for six years. He served in the U.S. Army Corps from 1943 to 1945.
He held the office of president of the Marathon County Rural Mail Carriers Association for two terms. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus and the Sawyer-Drumm American Legion Post of Edgar.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James, age 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Rifleman; a brother, William; and a sister, Mrs. Ben (Lucille) Gottschalk, all of Edgar.
