Schwartz, John A. (15 June 1880 - 25 Mar. 1961)
John A. Schwartz died Saturday at 10:45 P.M. at his home in Colby, Wisconsin at the age of 80 years. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Abbotsford village hall, Evangelist Peter Hunter officiating, and internment was made in the Dorchester Memorial cemetery. Pall bearers were Harold Brockhaus, Wally Brunner, Lavern Marcott, Dwight Baylow, Lawrence Carlson, Alfred Burkholtz.
Mr. Schwartz was born in Austria on June 15, 1880. He came to the United States at the age of three years with his parents who settled on a farm west of Stetsonville. He was married to Ida Wolf on October 29, 1907, in Dorchester, Wis. They operated a farm five miles west of Stetsonville until 1942 when they retired and moved to Colby, Wis.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Edward of Watertown, S.D., Elmer of Lodi, Calif., and Harvey of Glenwood; three daughters, Miss Selma Schwartz, at home, Mrs. Arvid (Clara) Carlson of Abbotsford and Mrs. Adolph (Anna) Behnke of Cecil; 15 grand children and six great grand children. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine, in 1923, two sisters and one brother.
Like all early pioneers, Mr. Schwartz was of a congenial and industrious disposition, honest in all his dealings, and respected by all who knew him.
