Marie V. A. (Seidl) Van Der Leest, 94, of Stratford,
died on Sunday morning, October 27, 2013, at Northside Elder Estate CBRF in
Stratford under the care of Ministry Home Hospice.
Mass of Christian
Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. St. Joseph’s Resurrection Choir will
provide the music for the services. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in
the Village of Stratford with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitations
will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until time of services at St. Joseph’s Church.
Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home in Stratford is assisting the family with the
arrangements.
Marie was born October 26, 1919, in the town of Cleveland,
Marathon County, to Wolfgang and Mary (Prohaska) Seidl. She attended the Grant
School in the town of Cleveland and St. Joseph's Parochial School in Stratford.
She was united in marriage to Leo Van Der Leest on November 17, 1941, at St.
Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford. She spent most of her life in the
Stratford area with the exception of one year when they lived in Milwaukee after
her marriage. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and St. Joseph's Altar
Society. Since 1938, she was a member of H.C.E. (Home and Community Education).
A lifetime member of the Legion Auxiliary, she was a unit and county
president and also a charter member of the Historical Society. She belonged to
many card clubs, enjoys crossword and word search puzzles, and enjoyed putting
together many picture puzzles. Watching the Packers and Brewers was one of her
greatest loves.
Surviving are four sons, Leon (Bernice) Van Der Leest of
Wausau, David (Theresa) Van Der Leest of Belvidere, Ill., John (Jeannie) Van Der
Leest of Edgar, and Kevin (Coral) Van Der Leest of Abbotsford; and four
daughters, Janice (Erv) Ploog of Marshfield, Mary (Jerome) Stack, Joanne
(Michael) Brusky and Norene (Stephen) Laessig all of Stratford. She is further
survived by 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren whom she enjoyed very
much.
Besides her parents, and husband, Leo, who preceded her in death on
October 25, 1985, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marlene and
an infant son, Gerald, and three sisters, and three brothers.
