Flood, Bessie (10 September - 23 December 1950)

Mrs. Wilfred C. Flood, 65, a resident of Humbird for the past 17 years, has been interred in the Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls. She died on December 23 following a long illness. Death was due to cancer of the lung (line missing).

Mrs. Flood, nee Bessie Thompson, was born in old Irontown, near Black River Falls, September 10, 1885, the daughter of George and Julia Levis Thompson. Her girlhood was spent near Black River Falls, where her father was engaged in the lumbering business.

On March 3, 1904, she was united in marriage to Wilfred C. Flood at Winona, Minn. They settled on a little farm near Hatfield where the three children were born. Later they moved to a farm in the Wrightsville area, where they lived many years. In 1933 they sold their farm and bought a service station on the outskirts of Humbird. They later built a cabin court and a new station. This business was sold in 1946 and they retired to the village.

Mrs. Flood was an active member of the Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and also in other organizations.

Surviving are three children and her husband; the children living are Grace, Mrs. Robert Giloy of Neillsville, Gladys, Mrs. Clarence Olson of Humbird, and Angus of Humbird. Also surviving are three brothers, three sisters and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Humbird with the Rev. Virgil Nulton of Neillsville officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Grous- (balance of obit cut off.)
