ABBORTSFORD -- Margaret E. Schraufnagel, 94, Abbotsford, died on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at the Continental Manor in Abbotsford, where she had resided the past two years.
Margaret Elizabeth Schraufnagel was born on February 11, 1910, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Fredrick and Sadie (Hovey) Engelking. She received her early education in Sanborn and attended Ashland High School. Margaret and Elmer M. Schraufnagel were united in marriage on October 27, 1928.
A homemaker, Margaret also was the local news correspondent for the Tribune Phonograph of Abbotsford, the Marshfield News Herald and the Wausau Daily Herald. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Star Circle, the Abbotsford American Legion and the Royal Neighbors. Margaret was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family and friends, and reaping the harvest from her garden. She also enjoyed the music of the big band era and country and western music. Margaret will be lovingly missed by her many friends and family, three sons Allen (Nancy) Schraufnagel of Portage; Owen (Grace) Schraufnagel of Abbotsford and Noel (Darlene) Schraufnagel of Port Gibson, Mississippi; five daughters Gayle Thomas of Dorchester; Beth (Lawrence) Bargender of Edgar; Karin (Robert) Hoffmann of Abbotsford; Lynda Graham of Waunakee and Trudee (Gus) Smith of Waynesboro, Virginia; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two great -great-grandchildren, and a sister Edna Berweger of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on July 19, 1979, two brothers Edward Engelking and Fredrick Engelking, Jr.; two sisters Marie Schraufnagel and Florence Schraufnagel; a grandson Jason Graham; and a great-granddaughter Jordyn Guenther.
Funeral services for Margaret will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church of Abbotsford, at 11:30 a.m. Reverend Pastor Keith Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with family and friends will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m.
