Mortl, John (12 July 1893 - 18 March 1971)
Mortl, 77,
of Greenwood died March 18, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he had
been a surgical patient since March 2.
Mr. Mortl, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Martin Mortl, was born July 12, 1893, in Tyro, Austria. He came to the United
States with his parents when he was three years old. They settled in Lincoln,
Ill., where he received his education. Later he was employed there in a coal
mine and in a blacksmith shop. In 1913, he joined the army and was in service
for seven years. He was never married.
In 1922, he came to Clark County
and farmed in Tioga until 1946. He came to Greenwood and in 1949 he was employed
by the Clark Electric Cooperative. He retired in 1958. There are no known
survivors.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Hill Funeral
Home. The Rev. Eugene Antrim, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church
officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Graveside military rites
were in charge of the Wallis-Hinker Legion Post, No. 238.
Pallbearers
were: Einar Jackson, Clarence Butler, Thomas Meredith, John Flitter, Phillip
Jenni and Richard Syth. Mrs. Elvera Fravert, Mrs. Jerald Richmond, Elmer Humke
and the Rev. and Mrs. Pacifico Camarin sang, “In the Garden” and “Ivory
Palaces,” with Mrs. Alvin Albert as organ accompanist.
