Snyder, Ernest H. (14 November 1889 - 11 March 1971)
Funeral services
for Ernest H. Snyder, 81, of Rt. 2, Neillsville, who died March 11 at Riverview
Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, were held Saturday, Mrch 13, at 2 p.m. from the
Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles D. Brady of St. Mary’s Catholic Church
officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Ernest
Snyder, the son of August F. and Estelle (Selves) Snyder, was born November 14,
1889, in Neillsville, where he received his education. As a young man he worked
for his father in a clothing store. He entered the armed forces on May 2, 1918,
served overseas, and was discharged at Camp Grant on February 8, 1919. He was a
sergeant with Co. D. 311 Amm. Train. During World War II he was a construction
worker on the Alcan Highway.
Mr. Snyder developed the area west of
Neillsville known, as Snyder’s Park. He served as Undersheriff with Sheriff
Herman Olson, and was also a deputy sheriff, a real estate salesman, and an
appraiser for the Neillsville Bank. At the time of his death he was bailiff for
the courts. He was a member of V.F.W. Wilson Heinz Post No. 2241.
He was
married in 1918 to the former Jesse Dwyer, who died in 1956. His second marriage
to the former Gertrude Farning, took place at Waukon, Ia., in 1957.
Survivors in addition to his wife, include two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Scherer of
Neillsville and Mrs. Lucille Fenske of Fort Madison, Ia., and a brother, Charles
Snyder of Chicago, Ill.
Pallbearers were: H. G. Haight, LeRoy John,
Howard Sturtz, Herb Smith, Tom Wavrunek, and Robert Schiller. Appropriate music
was played by Mrs. John Schiesel.
