Stanley, Lorraine Shirley (28 August 1929 - 19 February 2009)

Lorraine Stanley, 79, of Marshfield died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

Lorraine Shirley Stanley was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Humbird, the daughter of Earl and Margarete (Lubinski) Pierce. She attended the Humbird School through the eighth grade. In November of 1943 her family moved to the Hewitt farm near Neillsville. Lorraine had to hurry home from school to dish up milk for customers. She graduated in 1946 from Neillsville High School.

Lorraine worked for nine years at Schultz Brothers 5 & 10 cent store. Sept. 3, 1955 she married Allen Stanley. They farmed near Granton and ran the Granton Livestock Auction Market until 1977 when they moved to a smaller farm north of Neillsville. Lorraine and Allen love to roller skate and to pick stone. Lorraine did a lot of volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield and the Neillsville Memorial Home, Head Start and InterFaith Volunteer Caregivers. She was a member of the South Lynn Birthday Club. She enjoyed cake decorating, stained glass and African violets, but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren very much.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Allen, of Marshfield; a son, Bruce (Ellen) Stanley of Marshfield; a daughter, Shirley (Bruce) Smith of Kalamazoo, MI; one granddaughter, Marisa Stanley; three grandsons, Daniel, Jacob and Zachariah Stanley; and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; two brothers, Elwin Ted Pierce and Howard Pierce; a sister, Frances Russell; and a niece, Connie Coleman.

A memorial service for Lorraine was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Joan Chase officiated. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist and Corrine Armitage, soloist. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery at a later date.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Lorraine’s family with arrangements.
