Keiner, Elise (7 September 1876 - 27 March 1971)
Mrs. Christ Keiner, 94,
died unexpectedly at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at her home. She had been
confined to her home for seven years following a fall.
Mrs. Keiner, the
former Elise Romang, was born September 7, 1876, in Gsteig, Switzerland, to
Gottfried and Elise (Steffen) Romang. She came to the United States with her
parents in 1884 when she was seven years old, settling in Black Creek Falls,
which is now Athens. She received her education in the Athens School.
She
was married November 22, 1895, in Wausau to Christ J. Keiner. They celebrated
their golden wedding on November 22, 1945. They lived on a farm near Athens for
five years then moved into town, where Mr. Keiner was in the meat market
business until 1920. From 1922 to 1944, they resided in Greenwood where they
operated a meat market and grocery store.
Mr. Keiner died May 25, 1946.
Mrs. Keiner was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, the Women’s Guild,
the American legion Auxiliary and Forest Queen Royal Neighbors.
Survivors
are a son, Carl F. Keiner of Eau Clair; four daughters, Miss Louise Keiner and
Mrs. Hugh (Freda) Severson of Greenwood, Mrs. Martha Corbin of Milwaukee and
Mrs. Edith Gotz of Pittsville; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from
the Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev. David Logue officiated. Burial was
made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Christ
Keiner were held Tuesday afternoon in the Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev.
David Logue officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Edward Romang, Fred Romang, Emanuel Romang, Donald Romang,
Albert Mallow and Lawrence Neuenschwander. Gary Schultz sang, “In the Garden”
and “How Great Thou Art” accompanied by Mrs. Don Warner. Members of the American
Legion Auxiliary and Forest Queen Royal Neighbors attended in a body.
A
Royal Neighbor memorial service was held at the Hill Funeral Home Monday
evening, conducted by Mrs. Lawrence Cox, Mrs. Effie Swieso, Mrs. Robert
Clintsman, Mrs. Thomas Erickson, Mrs. Alice Perkins, Mrs. Leonard Johnson, Mrs.
George Caliebe and Mrs. Raymond Hoffman. Eight members of the Hope Royal
Neighbors of Loyal also attended.
