Berg, Christian (17 MAR 1868 - 5 APR 1951)
Christian Berg passed away at the Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, April 5, 1951, after being a patient there for three weeks. He, having been in poor health for several years.
Mr. Berg was born Mar. 17, 1868 in Norway and grew to manhood there, coming to this country and settling in Breezy Hill vicinity in the Town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.) 65 years ago. There was only wilderness here at that time, and a path thru the woods that he used walking from town with a sack of groceries on his back. He cleared enough land for his buildings and a few acres for crops.
One sport he enjoyed was skiing. Chris never married but his cousin Hannah Johnson kept the house for him and his father, Nels Emerson, who passed away many years ago.
After Hannah’s death 9 years ago, he sold his place to Harry Boie, which has valuable pin timber on and went to the Jacobs home here, where he has since resided until going to the hospital on March 11.
Only surviving relatives are nephews and nieces, children of his brother Andrew Nelson of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Sever Bjornstad of Owen, both preceding him in death.
Funeral services were held at Plombon’s Funeral Home in Stanley Sunday, April 8, Rev. J. N. Midtlien conducted the services. Burial was made beside his father and cousin in East Side Cemetery at Thorp. Chas. Frinack and five nephews were pallbearers.
Chris was a staunch friend and neighbor and will always be remembered as such by those who knew him.
