Garvin, Laura (13 MAY 1863 - 13 NOV 1944)
Mrs. Albert Garvin, a pioneer of the town of York, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mildred, in Waukesha on Nov. 13 at the age of 81 years.
Laura McKenzie was born in Canada on May 13, 1863. When she was a young girl, her parents moved to Wisconsin, settling in the town of York. At the age of 20 she was married to Albert E. Garvin on Sept. 1, 1883. To this union six children were born.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, three daughters and three sonsMrs. H. J. Kranzush of Waukesha, Mrs. Walter E. DeVore of Dawson, N. D., Mrs. David Smith of Loyal, Archie Garvin of West Allis, Earl Garvin of Marshall, Tex., and Silas Garvin of San Rafael, Cal. One sister, Mrs. Jim Flynn, of Owen, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
In 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Garvin moved, with their family, to Dawson, N. D., where they lived for nine years. Then they moved to Jamestown, N. D., and continued to live there until Aug. 1, 1944, at which time they gave up housekeeping and went to Waukesha to live with their daughter. Mrs. Garvin was in poor health for a number of years. She became seriously ill about two weeks ago, this illness resulting in her death.
Mrs. Garvin was a faithful member of the Methodist church and was an active member in church work.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church, the Rev. Myron E. Taylor officiating. The hymns, "Only a Touch" and Back of the Clouds," were sung by Mrs. Calvin Prior and Mrs. Ray Prior, with Mrs. Arnold D, Wicklund as accompanist.
Pallbearers were Herbert White, James White, J. R. Colby, Walter Schwieso, Rollie Benidict and Albert Davel. In charge of flowers were Mrs. J. R. Colby, Mrs. Herb White, Mrs. Walter Schwieso, Mrs. James White, Mrs. Rollie Benidict and Mrs. Claude Catlin.
Relatives from away who attended the funeral were A. E. Garvin and Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Kranzush of Waukesha, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Garvin of West Allis, Mrs. Walter DeVore and two daughters, Helen and Maxine of Dawson, S. D., Miss Doris DeVore of Marshfield, Mrs. Hannah Pickle of Fond du Lac, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Garvin of Sparta and Mr. and Mrs. F. Mathias of Medford.
The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved relatives.
