Richards, Clayton A. (26 OCT 1871 - 25 NOV 1944)
Clayton A. Richards, a former resident of Spencer, died unexpectedly Saturday Nov. 25, about 10:30 a.m. in the city hospital in Waupaca, where he sustained a successful operation for hernia a week before and was making an excellent recovery, was expected to be up from his bed on Sunday. Embolism caused his death and the recent operation had nothing to do with causing his death. Funeral services were held in the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. George H. Willett, Chaplain of the Grand Army Home at King, officiated, and interment was made at Park Falls in the Richards family lot.
Clayton A. Richards was born in Williamstown, O., on Oct. 26, 1871. When he was 11 years old the family moved to Unity, Wis., and his father operated a sawmill nine miles west of Unity, Wis. Later they lived on a farm near Loyal, and the parents spent their last years in Park Falls. Clayton moved to the Wisconsin Veterans Home community in 1929 and there built a home. He is survived by the widow, the former Mrs. Isabelle Tyler of the Veterans Home, whom he married in 1933; a son, S/Sgt. William Richards, who is an instructor in the Army Air Corps, and two step-sons, Ralph and Ray Tyler of Eau Claire and Milwaukee, respectively.
