Curtiss John Carl (27 December 1927 - 19 October 2013) With Flag
Lt.
Colonel Curtiss John Carl Marg, 85, died Oct. 19, 2013. Lt. Colonel Marg was
born Dec. 27, 1927, in Camas, WA, the oldest son of the late Elmer A. and Agnes
P. Marg of Granton and graduated from Granton High School in 1945.
He
entered the United States Army in 1946 and retired after more than 24 years of
continuous military service. He served in Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Laos and
Vietnam. During his services, he was awarded the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf
Cluster, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and other awards and decorations.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Clarksville, TN.
In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 57 years, Gladys Marie
Marg (lovingly known as Marge); one brother, Duane E. Marg; one sister, Ruth
Agnes Marg; a brother-in-law, Ralph Lautenbach; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy
Joyce Marg.
He is survived by his children: Curtiss J. C. Marg (Deanne)
of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Deborah Marie Melson (Daniel) of Clarksville, TN;
four grandchildren: Tiffany Ryan (Sean) of Greenfield Center, NY; Carlena O’Neil
(Adrian) of Portland, OR; Bray Melson (Julia) and Jordan Melson of Clarksville,
TN; and three great-grandchildren, Jake Michael Ryan, Morgan Kate Ryan and Molly
Ella O’Neil. He is also survived by two sisters, Alene Lautenbach and Amber
Pischer (Harvey), both of Neillsville; and one brother, Erland Marg (Jeanne) of
Wisconsin Dells.
The funeral was held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 12:30
p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, Clarksville, TN, with pastor Larry Peters
officiating. Members of the military served as pallbearers. Visitation was from
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour
of the service at the funeral home. Burial was made in Kentucky Veterans
Cemetery-West, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorial contributions to be made to Kentucky Department of Veterans
Affairs, Carillon Fund-KVCA 5817 Fort Campbell Boulevard, Hopkinsville, KY
42240.

Attending the funeral of
Lt. Col. Curtiss J. C. Marg in Clarksville, TN, Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, were
Alene Lautenbach, Amber Pischer, Margie Felser, Sarah Felser, Victoria Huth, all
of Neillsville; Jerry Lautenbach, Sauk City; and Dianne Mueller, Alma. Curtiss
grew up in Granton, graduated from Granton High School in 1945, and was a
charter member of Granton FFA and a member of Granton’s FFA Alumni. Curtiss had
a stroke and died suddenly Oct. 19, 2013. Only three and one-half months ago he
drove here for Harvey and my 65th wedding anniversary.
