Kelley, William J. (? - 23 April 1971)
Word has been received here of the
death early Friday evening, April 23, of William J. Kelley, 72, of San
Francisco, Calif., former resident of the Town of York. Following cremation, the
ashes of Mr. Kelley were to be scattered at sea.
Mr. Kelley, who was born
in Wonewoc, came to this area with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kelley, in
1905. The family settled in the Town of York, where he attended the happy Hollow
School. He left home in 1918, joined the Navy in 1919, and made it his career,
retiring to San Francisco in 1949 after 30 years of active duty. Mr. Kelley
served on a gun-boat in the south pacific theater of operations during World War
II.
Survivors include his wife, Alta; a brother, John Kelley of
Neillsville; two nephews and two nieces.
