Zukowski, George (26 NOV 1880 - 2 NOV 1951)
Last rites were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Church, Stanley, for George Zukowski, 70, who passed away at the Stanley hospital on Nov. 2nd, 1951, following a stroke. The solemn high mass was held at 10:00 o’clock with Father Ralph Geissler as celebrant, Father Jerome Kamla, Deacon and Father Edwin Knauf, sub-deacon.
He was born in Poland on Nov. 26th, 1880, and came to the United State with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Zukowski, in 1901. He lived with the family on a farm north of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) for several years and on Oct. 22nd, 1906 was united in marriage to Anna Hoffman here. They moved to Stanley about forty years ago and he was employed in a shoe factory there until its destruction by fire. The family then settled in the Township of Withee, where they resided until the retirement of Mr. and Mrs. Zukowski, and their removal to Stanley where he made his home the past six years.
Mr. Zukowski was active in Township affaires while a citizen in the Town of Withee and served as treasurer of that town for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Society of the Polish National Alliance.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jacob of Stanley, Felix of Unity, Julius of Chicago, and William of Thorp; one daughter, Florence, Mrs. Joseph Piwoni of Thorp; four brothers, Peter and Louis of Thorp, Frank and John of Chicago; two sisters, Mary, Mrs. Joe Jarocki, and Tillie Zukowski of Thorp; and four granddaughters. His mother and father passed away in 1922 and 1936 and sisters, Emily and Jennie, died in 1936 and 1943.
Interment took place in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Anton Sobolewski, Louis Twarowski, Stanley Neiman, Mike Florkowski, Ignatz Przybylski and John Sumiec.
