Smith, Elizabeth (20 APR 1856 - 27 NOV 1951)

One of the oldest resident of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis., Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, passed away Nov. 27th, 1951 at the Victory Hospital in Stanley, after a long illness. She was born in Illinois on April 20, 1856 and after her marriage moved to Thorp at the turn of the century. When her husband died in 1904 she went west. Later she came back to live with her son John Smith on a farm.

In 1945 she and her son moved to Thorp. Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, John and Jacob of Thorp, three daughters, Elinor Smith of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Ann Baroni and Mrs. Carrie Dyer, of Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church with the Rev. Arnold Muckerheide officiating. She was buried in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Her maiden name was Elizabeth Wellman) . Her parents were Jacob and Katherine Wellman from deer park, Illinois . She is my 3rd great aunt.
