Resong, Marie Josephine (16 Oct. 1917 - 7 Mar. 2009)

NEILLSVILLE -- Marie Resong, 91, of Neillsville died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.

Marie Josephine Langreck was born at home Oct. 16, 1917, in Neillsville, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Mueller) Langreck. She attended the Reed School, and then moved to Sheboygan and worked at St. Nicholas Hospital for a year. She was united in marriage May 30, 1938, to John Marcus Resong at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. Marie worked as a homemaker, raising their three children. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Marie was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She became a member of the Christian Mother's Society, now known as the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). She was a rosary leader and a volunteer at St. Mary's Catholic School, helping children learn to read for many years.

Marie also did volunteer work at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville for more than 30 years. She belonged to a sewing club. She loved raising strawberries, raspberries, flowers and gardening. She belonged to a card club and played 500.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Resong of Neillsville and James Resong of Neillsville; a daughter, Mary Ann (Randall) Sands of Prescott; five grandchildren, Lisa (Kirt) Murphy of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Kim (Todd) Peterson of River Falls, Tina (Mitch) Nikl of Chisago City, Minn., Rick Sands of New Richmond, and Rodney Sands of Prescott; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Murphy, Drew Peterson, Dalton Peterson, Harli Nikl and Sophia Nikl. Marie is also survived by four siblings, Harold (Dorothy) Langreck of Neillsville, Sister Niva Langreck and Sister Lillia Langreck, both of Milwaukee, and Bob (Mary Ann) Langreck of Neillsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a sister, Dorothy Opelt; a brother, Herb Langreck; her parents; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Resong.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Woodrow H. Pace. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary's Choir. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.

Casket bearers are: Rick Sands, Rodney Sands, Tony Langreck, Gerald Opelt, Wayne Opelt and Larry Opelt.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Marie's family with funeral arrangements.
