Quinlan, Eva (Retirement - 1971)
Friday the thirteenth doesn’t always
foreshadow bad luck.
Mrs. Eva Quinlan, who has spent nearly 50 years of
her life as an employee of the Neillsville Bank, is retiring from her position
on Friday, May 14, and has never witnessed a robbery there. Mrs. Quinlan began
her long career at the bank on Friday, July 13, 1923.
A native of
Neillsville area and a 1923 Neillsville High School graduate, Mrs. Quinlan
worked at a variety of jobs in the bank before assuming her present position as
assistant cashier over 20 years ago.
Her earlier plans for a 1944
retirement were changed abruptly by the unexpected death of her husband, Roger
E. Quinlan. Mr. Quinlan, who operated a clothing store here, was stricken by a
fatal heart attack in 1943. The couple was married in 1937.
Mrs. Quinlan
has seen many changes in the Neillsville Bank over the intervening years. Of the
present staff, only Herman North has been active longer than she. In some ways,
the prospect of retirement leaves her a little sad.
A gregarious person
by nature, Mrs. Quinlan says that she has enjoyed working at the bank where she
has had the opportunity to meet with and served the public. She knows she’ll
miss seeing her many friends and acquaintances there.
