THORP -- Clara M. Staniec, 76, of Thorp, formerly of Lublin, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thorp Funeral Home, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Lublin.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Thorp Funeral Home, with a 6:45 p.m. rosary service. Visitation also will be Tuesday at the funeral home from noon until time of service.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

THORP -- Clara M. Staniec, 76, of Thorp, formerly of Lublin, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Lublin.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until time of service.

Clara Mary Markowski was born May 14, 1932, in the town of Withee to Ted and Martha (Lubrant) Markowski. She was united in marriage to Leon Staniec on April 16, 1951, in Medford. She worked as a cook at the Lublin Elementary School and later as a cook at the Thorpedo in Thorp. She also farmed with her husband in the town of Roosevelt until retiring and moving into Thorp in 1995.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Staniec Sr. of Thorp; five children, Sharon Staniec of Thorp, Leon "Leo" (Linda) Staniec Jr. of Thorp, Shirley (Terry) Wright of Chippewa Falls, Sandy Brecht of Greenwood and Michael (Dawn) Staniec of Thorp; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Cichocke of Wausau; and a brother, Raymond (Norie) Markowski of Tucson, Ariz.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
