Klay, Esther #2 (23 JUN 1949)
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, was the scene of the marriage of Miss Esther Klay and Norman Baehr on June 23, 1949. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Klay, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), are the bride’s parents and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baehr, also of Withee. Officiating at the 2 p.m. ceremony was the Rev. Walter Schedler.
Miss Marjorie Emerson, Milwaukee, was amid of honor for her friend. Bridesmaids were Miss Beverly Stensberg, Mosinee, and Miss Elaine Baehr, Withee, sister of the groom. Flower girl was Dorene Quell, Withee.
Attending the groom were Arthur Nevala, as best man, and Vernon Baehr, cousin of the groom, both of Withee. Ushers were John Klay, Cadott, brother of the bride, and Vernon Baehr, Withee, cousin of the groom. Billy Kenney was ring bearer.
White marquisette over satin was worn by the bride. Her fitted bodice, fashioned with a bertha collar, came to a point below the waist. An apron trimmed with Chantilly lace featured the hoop skirt and an orange blossom and lace headpiece held her fingertip veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses.
Yellow marquisette over satin was worn by the maid of honor and the bridesmaids were attired in blue. The gowns were styled similarly to the bride’s except for the four tiers of lace at the bottom of the hoop skirts. Completing their outfits were fingertip gloves which matched their dresses and bonnets with short veils. They all carried colonial bouquets of contrasting carnations.
Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church.
Both young people are graduates of Eau Claire State Teachers College. Mr. Baehr is an instructor at St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, and Mrs. Baehr is a kindergarten teacher at Mosinee Grade School. The couple took a northern Wisconsin honeymoon.
